Last Summer, we took a 3700+ mile, 22-day-long road trip that took us through CA, NV, UT, CO, NM, and AZ with our 14-year-old dog. We visited with family, attended a relative’s wedding in Salt Lake, and explored a small part of our beautiful country. We experienced temps as low as 41 degrees and as high as 113 degrees and elevations from sea level all the way up to 11,796 feet (at the top of Rocky Mountain National Park). We experienced incredible weather: snow in August (Alpine Visitor Center), four thunderstorms, three rainbows (two double rainbows), lots of sunshine, and countless big skies with amazing light and clouds. It was an epic trip in so many ways.
When I think of comfort, I think back to a magical five days my family and I spent together on a ranch in Montrose, Colorado. This special time was the highlight of our trip. We had amazing fun staying in a little cabin on a private ranch where we had access to two private ponds for fishing, paddle boating and kayaking.
We felt comfortable enough to truly vacation here, which for me means being carefree and exploratory. My Littles wore very little clothing. We explored, fished, ran around, played with our dog, took the boat out on the lake, and visited with the alpacas that lived on the ranch. One evening an incredible thunderstorm came through and my hubby and I stayed out on the porch rocking chairs until 1:30am to experience it. Being from Southern California, we just don’t get that kind of weather. So, this was very exciting and romantic for us. Needless to say, we will be coming back to this place!
