Project Ten Challenge: Treasures

Hello!  It’s been awhile since I’ve had the time to blog.  I took an unplanned hiatus from blogging but I’m back again, and I promise you will hear from me more often.  🙂

I joined a photo project with some other fellow female photographers called Project Ten Challenge. There will be ten different themes for the year, which are open to your own interpretation.  This month’s theme is treasures.  I need a photo project to push me to continue my personal photography work.  This is the right one for me because there’s no pressure.  You can join in when you can and if you miss one, not a big deal.

One thing I treasure very much is capturing my son and daughter (I call them my “Littles”) in their everyday lives and the rare, treasured moments. These are photos I have taken during the past several weeks. There are photos portraying who they are as individuals in their daily lives and who they are when they’re together whether it’s at home, at the park, or a rare day in February when it was warm enough to spend the day at the beach. These lifestyle photos range from serious to silly.

My son is five going on six. He is silly and uncomfortable in front of the camera, so when I can catch him being who he is, I jump to grab my camera. He is a huge energy ball yet there are many moments where he will sit down to focus on a task like building Legos or a putting together a new baby doll high chair for his sister.

My two and a half year old daughter loves to dance and wear pretty dresses. She also loves her stuffed animals. I love capturing these moments and I had to include a photo where she actually struck a pose for me on her own, which was a first. I’m not a huge fan of posed photos, but this one was so dang cute to not include in this series.

Together, they are playful and connected. He is such a loving brother. They do have their moments when they fight over toys. But, there are so many other moments where they are playing together, holding hands, and sharing the joys of life as siblings, that I love to capture.

I stayed with all black and white for cohesiveness and because I’ve been on a black and white kick lately.  I love how dramatic it can look.  These are the moments in my life right now that I treasure and hold close to my heart….
